Kissers by Roland Lawar, Painted Steel, 230cm high
Roland Lawar’s Kissers stands as a commanding presence, a monumental abstract sculpture forged from painted steel and finished in a vivid red that instantly captures attention. The work dominates its space, inviting viewers to move around it and experience its shifting planes and intersecting forms. The sculpture’s cross like structure evokes both balance and tension, suggesting a meeting point between opposing forces perhaps a symbolic embrace, as its title implies.
Rather than presenting a static object, Lawar’s composition feels alive with movement. The crisp edges and bold geometry push outward into the surrounding air, while the rich, glossy surface reflects changing light throughout the day. As viewers circle the piece, its angular forms unfold in new configurations, revealing both solidity and openness. The red paint intensifies this experience, transforming the industrial material into something strikingly emotional and human.
Through Kissers, Lawar merges the language of abstraction with a sense of intimacy and connection. The steel’s strength contrasts with the tender suggestion of contact or union. This duality, the hard and the soft, the structural and the symbolic, gives the work its unique energy. Ultimately, Kissers is more than a sculptural object, it is an encounter between colour, form, and feeling, a bold exploration of how minimal elements can express powerful emotional resonance.
