EARLY LIFE:
Roland remembers sitting for hours, looking at cracks in walls and forming images with them. He hung around blacksmiths and carpenters, tailors and goldsmiths and took great interest in their craft. In particular wood shavings from the carpenters, forming shapes with them.
EDUCATION:
Roland finished school, and won many prizes for his creative efforts.
Later on he took evening classes at London College of Printing, and St Martins school of Art.
CAREER:
Roland worked alongside Derrick Haworth as his assistant, and began to become aware of the huge limitless processes behind abstract art.
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Using found objects. – incorporating steel and cast bronze.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Colours and texture of natures, inspired by African origins and observations of daily life. Abstract and contemporary art.
