Hiraeth by Dilys Jackson, A.R.B.S. Steel and Cast Iron, Unique, 210cm high by 41cm wide by 41cm deep

Hiraeth by Dilys Jackson A.R.B.S. is a striking steel and cast iron sculpture that embodies both form and emotion. Standing 210 cm high, with a width and depth of 41 cm, it presents a tall, slim diamond shape that rises elegantly from its bottom point, firmly anchored to the ground. The diamond’s thin, elongated lines draw the eye upward, creating a sense of height and aspiration.

A contrasting strip of uneven, lumpy iron descends one side of the diamond. It begins at the top, slides along the plane, and pauses at the middle fold before continuing downward. This irregular element interrupts the geometric precision of the steel, adding texture, movement, and a sense of tension. The contrast between the smooth, rigid diamond and the rugged iron strip captures both fragility and strength, order and imperfection.

The sculpture invites viewers to walk around it, noticing how the iron strip interacts with light and shadow as it twists along the surface. Its verticality and simplicity convey an abstract yet powerful narrative of longing, rooted in the concept of hiraeth, the deep yearning for home or a place of belonging.

Through careful composition and material contrast, Jackson transforms industrial materials into an expressive, contemplative work. Hiraeth balances elegance with emotional resonance, turning steel and iron into a visual meditation on desire, memory, and connection. It commands presence in any space, combining architectural clarity with poetic depth.
