Giant Head by Rod Vass, Polyurethane Resin, Unique, 264cm high by 140cm wide by 170cm deep, Abstract, Classical, Fantasy, Figurative , Male, Face, Men, Sculpture
Giant Head by Rod Vass is a large-scale polyurethane resin sculpture measuring approximately 264 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 170 cm deep. It depicts a stoic male face with cracks running through the surface, giving it a sense of age and fragility. The sculpture balances realism with abstraction, its monumental size and texture creating a striking presence, especially in outdoor settings. Originally created as a prop for the TV series Beowulf, the piece carries a theatrical, mythic quality, blending human familiarity with surreal scale. Its cracked surface suggests themes of time, resilience, and impermanence, while the synthetic material allows for a lighter weight than stone or metal, making it suitable for display in gardens or open spaces.

Rod remembers: “The heads were originally made for the high budget TV series Beowulf. The series was filmed in Northumberland in some of the most beautiful locations with some very impressive building works, there was an enormous Anglo Saxon Mead Hall built in wild countryside by a lake. The huge heads were positioned all around the hills and landscape in Northumberland and their last usage was as part of a bridge in a remote location.”
