Born in 1932, John Gratton started his working life as an engineer. He also served in the RAF for three years as a regular and 5 years as a reservist. He was part of the Rhodes centenary exhibition on Rhodesia (Now Zambia). Regular Service ended in 1953 and he then went back into engineering. He originally started sculpting fantasy figures when engineering work was hard to find in the recession in the late 1970’s.
