Cut Out II by John Foster is a striking abstract steel sculpture, standing 279 cm high with a width and depth of 79 cm.
The piece rises in a tall, angular form, slightly widening toward the top. Its sharp, clean lines emphasize height and geometric presence. The steel surface is solid and imposing, yet the sculpture’s character comes from the dramatic cuts that pierce through its body.
These cuts vary in size. Some are small, subtle interruptions in the form, while others slice the piece almost entirely through. Despite the extensive slicing, only a few segments appear fully removed. Most cuts pass through the structure, creating voids and negative spaces that contrast with the solidity of the steel.
The arrangement of the slices creates rhythm and tension. The eye moves up the sculpture, tracing the interplay between solid planes and empty channels. The cut edges cast shadows that shift as light changes, adding a dynamic visual effect.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
