EARLY LIFE:
John Foster began creating steel sculptures while still at secondary school. After leaving school, he worked for a steel company for a year, where he developed practical knowledge of steel engineering and fabrication.
LIVES:
He was based in England.
CAREER:
Foster went on to formally study sculpture in Guildford and Epsom, refining his skills and developing his distinctive approach to working with steel. He built a career centred on sculptural practice, with his work being exhibited in numerous galleries.
MATERIALS:
Steel was the sole medium used throughout his career.
STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
His work focused on the expressive and structural possibilities of steel, informed by both artistic training and hands on engineering experience.
