This piece by Martyn Barratt is a unique abstract stone sculpture which takes the form of a rounded, rock-like shape, yet it immediately draws the eye with its unusual surface. Instead of being smooth, the stone bursts with outward crater forms, carved across every side.
These craters give the piece movement. Light falls into them, while shadows stretch outward, changing the look as you move around it. From one side, the shapes resemble the eroded marks of ancient geology. From another, they suggest the pitted surface of a distant moon or planet. This constant shift keeps the viewer engaged, encouraging a closer look.
The craters also create rhythm. They guide your gaze from one curve to the next, making the sculpture feel alive despite its solid mass. Because the form is simple but detailed, it balances weight with texture. The stone feels grounded, yet the patterning makes it seem almost in motion.
Barratt’s design blends earthbound and cosmic imagery. At first, you might think of a weathered boulder pulled from a riverbed. Moments later, you might imagine an asteroid drifting silently through space. This tension between the familiar and the otherworldly gives Blue Planet its charm.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
