BORN:
France
CAREER:

UK,
MEDIUMS USED IN WORK:
Marble, limestone and alabaster
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
The central themes to his work are movement and nature, the ability to animate stone or marble by carving a delicate sculpture that creates a paradox between the apparent lightness of the material and its weight. It appears light so that we can see it flying, emerging from the world of matter to that of refinement and elegance.
Artist Statement
Frédéric Chevarin is a sculptor of French origins, deeply fascinated by stone and its potential. His sculptures are unique as each piece is the result of a deep search into the significance of life and into what it means to be human.
Skills and machines, while indispensable, thus become simply means to develop the real purpose of sculpture, which is to convey feelings, emotions, deep peace and harmony with Nature, our best friend.
Technique is a way to transform stone into birds, leaves or gentle flowing shapes, which become immaterial to connect us with a deep feeling of happiness, venturing into a journey through our minds and souls, helping each individual to find their own answers.
Creativity is one of the numerous results of spirituality; once the ego is out of the picture and no need to impress the others is felt, then the soul is free to express itself in the purest way. Real inspiration comes when it is ready and flows through the artist’s open mind; then, a mystery happens. A faint shape, just an idea free from desire, emerges from the mind. Slowly, the immaterial becomes material. Brancusi once said that the hardest task was not to create, but to prepare the perfect conditions in order to create.
Frédéric has been mentored by Helaine Blumenfeld OBE FRSS and Vasco Montecchi (Italy). He has exhibited widely in the UK, France and Italy. His creations are located both in private collections in the UK, France, Italy and Switzerland, and in public places in High gate cemetery in London, Haddenham & Thame Parkway, the Willem Park in Milton Keynes and most importantly, The Sculpture Park, Churt
