The Catcher by Victoria Rance is a unique contemporary sculpture made from steel. Measuring 77 cm in height, width, and depth, the work presents one half of a cage, a bold, geometric form that immediately sparks curiosity.
Rather than enclosing space fully, the sculpture leaves one side entirely open. This deliberate choice introduces a striking contrast between confinement and freedom. As a result, the structure becomes more than just a physical object; it becomes a visual and conceptual metaphor. Is it part of a trap, or the beginning of an escape?
Rance uses steel to full effect. Its industrial strength and clean lines emphasize precision and control. At the same time, the open framework allows light to filter through, casting shifting shadows that animate the form. These changes add a sense of movement to an otherwise rigid structure.
Moreover, the sculpture invites multiple interpretations. One might see protection, another might see restriction. The absence of the second half doesn’t weaken the form, it sharpens it. It challenges the viewer to imagine what’s missing, or what could come next.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
