Feet of the Mind by Emmanuel Changunda, Springstone, Unique. 73cm high by 27cm wide by 23cm deep, Figurative, Male, Men, People sculpture
Feet of the Mind by Emmanuel Changunda is both surreal and symbolic. It is a Shona springstone sculpture depicting a foot, with the five toes each carved as heads. Carved from dense, fine-grained springstone, polished to a deep sheen. The sculpture blends the solidity of the foot (a symbol of grounding, progress, and movement) with the individuality of five distinct human heads (suggesting ancestry, community, or multiple facets of self).
The result is a work of art that is at once earthbound and philosophical, inviting reflection on themes of connection, heritage, and the shared journey of humanity. Each “toe-head” carries its own subtle expression, giving the piece an almost conversational quality, five voices carried by a single body.
