This piece by William Wilberforce Chewa is a unique Shona Opal Stone sculpture, it depicts two abstract figures entwined in a dance, rendered in a minimalistic style.
Each figure is simplified into geometric forms—a circle for the head and a rectangle for the body. One figure rises tall, leaning slightly over the other, while the second figure bends and curves beneath, creating a gentle contrast. Their forms meet at the base, pressed together, yet a natural gap forms between them, suggesting movement and balance.
The taller figure is smoothed and polished, allowing the deep green of the opal stone to gleam, catching light and emphasizing the elegance of the pose. In contrast, the crouched figure remains unpolished, its surface more rugged and presenting a lighter green-grey tone, offering visual contrast and textural depth.
Through this interplay of polished and unpolished surfaces, the sculpture conveys intimacy, rhythm, and harmony. The forms lean into each other, capturing the fluidity of dance, while the abstraction emphasizes emotion over detail.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
