Ice Cream by David Cooke, Stoneware, Unique, 35cm high 90cm wide 28cm deep, Animals and Birds, Food sculpture, Bird, Rat, Mouse, Ice Cream
Ice Cream by David Cooke is a unique stoneware sculpture that blends humor, realism, and a touch of urban storytelling. Measuring 35cm high, 90cm wide, and 28cm deep, this figurative piece captures an everyday scene brought to life with striking detail and character.
At the heart of the sculpture, a curious rat leans forward. With the intent to nibble at a fallen ice cream cone, its tiny paws gripping the pavement. Beside it, a watchful crow stands poised, head tilted and eyes locked on the treat. The crows feathers textured to catch the light and convey the bird’s sharp focus. Together, these two animals become unlikely companions, drawn together by a shared moment of scavenging.
Cooke’s choice of stoneware adds an earthy, tactile quality to the piece. The natural tones and subtle glazes highlight textures. From the roughness of the pavement to the smooth swirl of the melting ice cream. Despite its whimsical subject, the sculpture feels grounded in reality, thanks to careful observation and craftsmanship.
Ice Cream tells a small but familiar urban story, one of survival, opportunity, and the quiet interactions between creatures often overlooked. Through humor and detail, it invites viewers to pause and see beauty and narrative in the ordinary. Bold yet gentle, it’s a sculpture full of life, character, and charm.
