Portal by Jon Loxley rises to an impressive 345 cm in height and width, forming a monumental copper and aluminium structure that invites viewers to rethink space, scale, and perception. Rather than presenting a static object, the sculpture creates an experience. A metal frame serves as the foundation, but it quickly shifts from simple geometry into something far more immersive. Tightly strung copper wires span the interior like lines of tension or energy, guiding the eye across the form.

At the centre, a perfect spherical opening breaks through the web of wires. This void doesn’t act as a gap or loss, instead, it becomes the heart of the piece. The circle interrupts the grid with organic clarity, suggesting movement, passage, or transformation. The moment the viewer peers through this opening, the world beyond becomes part of the artwork. Buildings, sky, or landscape align with the sculpture, turning environment into content.

Additionally, the copper wires respond to light with unexpected richness. Depending on the time of day, they glow with warm highlights, cast dramatic shadows, or shimmer with subtle reflections. These changes animate the structure, making it feel alive even though the materials remain industrial and rigid. The aluminium frame grounds the piece with cool precision, creating a striking contrast against the warmer copper tones.

Ultimately, Portal challenges viewers to consider how boundaries also create access. By combining rigid lines with a powerful central void, Loxley builds more than a sculpture, he constructs an invitation to look through, to move forward, and to imagine what lies beyond.

Delivery & Installation

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
