Lasting Union is a captivating figurative sculpture by celebrated Zimbabwean Shona artist Ewit Nyanhongo. The piece is carved from dense, dark Springstone, prized for its durability and fine texture. Standing 90 centimetres tall, it showcases Nyanhongo’s skill in transforming solid stone into fluid, expressive forms.
The sculpture depicts two figures intertwined, their forms merging seamlessly into a single, harmonious composition. Through gentle curves and precise carving, Nyanhongo conveys a profound sense of connection, intimacy, and enduring partnership. In this way, the work evokes themes of love, unity, and resilience. Shona sculpture refers to a modern movement of stone carving that originated in Zimbabwe. The name comes from the Shona people, the largest group in Zimbabwe, formed from several closely related tribes. They share a common language and culture and have a long artisanal tradition of stone working. In fact, Zimbabwe itself takes its name from the Shona people’s craft, meaning “house of stone.” Through this heritage, Shona artists continue to create works that combine technical mastery with emotional and spiritual depth.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
