Entwined by Fannie Mupanga, Springstone, Unique, 120cm high, 55cm wide, 45cm deep, Animals and Birds, Nature, Love, Giraffe, sculpture
Entwined by Fannie Mupanga is a unique Shona springstone sculpture standing 120cm high, 55cm wide, and 45cm deep. Carved with precision and care, the piece captures a tender moment between two giraffes. Their long, graceful necks twist around one another in a gentle spiral, drawing the eye upward toward their softly touching heads.
The giraffes’ bodies remain close, almost fused in posture, emphasizing unity and affection. Their heads tilt upward, meeting in a delicate kiss that radiates calm and connection. Mupanga uses the natural strength and smooth finish of springstone to highlight the elegance of the animals, while subtle textural details on their faces and limbs offer contrast and realism.
This entwining gesture isn’t just physical, it reflects emotional closeness and harmony. The composition moves fluidly, from the solid base to the rising arc of their intertwined forms. It creates a rhythm that feels both grounded and uplifting.
Though abstracted in some elements, the sculpture stays true to the spirit of the animals. The smooth curves and flowing shapes are softened by the natural grain and dark sheen of the stone. As light moves across the surface, different angles reveal new connections between the pair.
Entwined is a celebration of love, trust, and unity. Through graceful form and heartfelt symbolism, Mupanga invites viewers to pause and reflect on the quiet power of affection shared.
