Ephemera by Glenn Morris, Bronze on Ancaster stone base, 65cm high, 15.5cm wide, 15.5cm deep, Edition of 4, Body, Woman sculpture

Ephemera by Glenn Morris is a poignant bronze sculpture that explores memory, identity, and the delicate nature of what we leave behind. Standing 65cm high and presented in an edition of four, the work features a headless, armless female figure, elegant and still, mounted on a square Ancaster stone plinth.

The figure, though fragmentary, retains a quiet dignity. The smoothness of the bronze accentuates the curvature of the torso and the subtleties of form, suggesting beauty preserved but also partially erased. By omitting the head and arms, Morris invites the viewer to consider absence, not as loss, but as a form of mystery, a space for projection and interpretation.

Attached to the stone base, a small glass box holds delicate treasures: strands of pearls, fragments of lacework, and other intimate keepsakes. These elements evoke the personal and the ephemeral, symbols of femininity, memory, and transience. In contrast to the solid, enduring figure, the items within the box feel fragile and fleeting, like whispers from another time.

The use of Ancaster stone grounds the composition, providing both a visual and conceptual foundation. Cool and pale, it complements the bronze’s warmth while reinforcing the sense of timelessness.

Ephemera is both haunting and graceful. It balances the permanence of sculpture with the impermanence of memory, offering a meditation on what lingers after we are gone.
