Freedom by Steve Wood and Clive Morris, Bronze, Unique, 3m high, 6m wide, 2m deep, 5 tonne, Transportation Sculpture, Motorbike Sculpture, Fatboy Sculpture

The largest monumental bronze sculpture of a Fatboy Harley Davidson Motorbike, in the world.

History of ‘Freedom’

Nearly 20 years ago, British artists Steve Wood and Clive Morris (friends for 40+ years and known as ‘The Twins’ due to their similarities to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito), were the proud creators of ‘Freedom’. This replica of a 1991 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is the largest sculpture of this kind in the world and represents personal freedom

Created in two UK foundries; in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and Braintree, Essex, the sculpture was completed in July 2003. ‘Freedom’ was then shipped to America where it travelled for a one month and 4500-mile journey, through many icons of the US, before being permanently stationed in Milwaukee.

During this trip, Clive and Steve filmed the whole event, collating a total of 40 hours of film footage – the idea being to use this footage to make a documentary of the sculpture and its journey.

On their first day, the sculpture reached Ace Café in North London, joined by 1,000 motorcycles and a police-escorted parade to Tate Modern. The next day, it was shipped from Southampton to New York, touring Manhattan landmarks and appearing on Breakfast TV. This journey coincided with Harley-Davidson’s 100th anniversary, leading Clive and Steve to a large rally in Milwaukee with over 250,000 bikes. They rested at Harley-Davidson dealers along their 1,000-mile route, enjoying gigs by Chuck Berry and Martha Reeves. The sculpture was finally placed at Milwaukee State Park, with House of Harley dealership agreeing to look after it until a new home was found.

It ultimately continued to reside here until November 2021 – when it was finally brought home to the UK and is currently on display and for sale from The Sculpture Park
