Standing 229 cm high, this large scale folk inspired wind chime functions as both a visual artwork and an acoustic instrument. The sculpture features a black tubular structure crafted from heavy gauge polished stainless steel and tempered aluminium alloy tubing, paired with solid polyethylene clappers that produce a deep, resonant tone.

The work takes its name from the quartal scale, a musical palindrome built on intervals of fourths and fifths. Known for its smooth, open, and serene sound, the quartal scale influenced early twentieth century American composers such as Aaron Copland and Paul Hindemith. Quartal Bass translates this musical language into physical form, allowing harmony and rhythm to emerge through movement and air rather than notation.
