Root Throne is a unique hardwood furniture sculpture measuring 181 cm high, 98 cm wide, and 110 cm deep. Handcrafted from the root system of a felled Indonesian tree, this piece transforms natural wood into a majestic and functional throne.
The design highlights the organic complexity of the tree’s roots. The back of the throne fans outward, creating a dramatic display of intertwined roots filled with natural gaps and openings. These spaces let light flow through the piece, emphasizing its sculptural quality. In contrast, the seat is carefully smoothed and carved out, offering both comfort and balance to the raw, untamed structure above.
Each Root Throne begins with the meticulous excavation of the tree’s roots. Artisans then dry, sand, and polish the wood, preserving its natural character while refining its surface. The finished result celebrates both the rugged beauty of nature and the precision of human craftsmanship.
Made from hardwood rich in natural oils, the throne resists weathering and can endure outdoor conditions. However, regular treatment, once or twice a year, keeps the wood’s surface vibrant and strong.

Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
