Passion Flower by Maylee Christie, Stainless Steel, Glass Mosaic & Enamel, 335 cm (H) × 210 cm (W) × 200 cm (D), Unique Work
Maylee Christie expands the language of surrealism through monumental forms that fuse industrial strength with organic imagination. In Passion Flower, she constructs a towering flower over three metres high, its petals forged in stainless steel and encrusted with a vivid mosaic of glass and enamel.
The surface shimmers with colour as each piece of glass reflects and refracts light, transforming the steel framework into a radiant, living presence. The contrast between the sculpture’s robust structure and its fragile, jewel-like surface captures a tension at the heart of Christie’s practice, strength entwined with delicacy, permanence infused with transience.
The surreal scale turns a simple blossom into a fantastical monument. Christie elevates the familiar into the extraordinary, inviting viewers to step into a world where nature dominates space with dreamlike intensity. The title, Passion Flower, underscores both the sensuality of colour and the emotional resonance of transformation.
Christie’s work reflects a contemporary approach to surrealism, where organic forms emerge from industrial materials to embody both human imagination and natural wonder. By merging meticulous craftsmanship with poetic vision, she creates a piece that stands as both sculpture and spectacle, capable of commanding attention in public or private settings.
