Gate by Jenny Pickford, Steel, Glass, Unique, 240cm high by 146cm wide by 10cm deep, Architecture, Floral, Gates sculpture
This piece by Jenny Pickford, stands 240 cm tall and combines sculpture with functional design, presents a striking blend of architecture and nature. It forms a working gate fixed between two identical, towering spikes. One spike holds the hinges, while the other supports the latch, giving the piece a bold, symmetrical frame.
The gate itself rises in a graceful curve, lifting from both sides toward a single high point in the middle. This arch draws the eye upward and encourages viewers to follow the movement of the metal. Inside the gate, strips of steel twist and wind together. They mimic organic growth, like stems climbing and curling in a garden. The lines move freely, bringing a sense of life and motion into the rigid material.
Near the top, three flower bulbs emerge from the steel stems. Their petals unfurl gently, pointing toward the sky. These blossoms anchor the design, adding focus and personality. They also hint at blooming potential, as if the gate marks the entrance to something fertile, creative, or flourishing.
The entire sculpture keeps its natural steel colouring. This choice strengthens the contrast between industrial craft and botanical inspiration. As a result, Gate feels both strong and delicate, both engineered and alive. It functions as a boundary, yet it also invites imagination, transforming a simple passageway into a sculptural experience.
