Wrestlers by Ian Rank-Broadley, Bronze Resin, 210cm high, 165cm wide, 165cm deep, Figurative, Male, Nude sculpture
Wrestlers by Ian Rank-Broadley is a commanding bronze resin sculpture, standing 210 cm high and 165 cm in both width and depth. The work captures two nude male figures locked in a moment of intense physical struggle. Their muscular forms are rendered with great precision, emphasizing strength, movement, and the raw energy of the human body.
One figure crouches low, his body coiled with tension as he reaches upward to grab his opponent. His pose conveys both power and focus, grounding the struggle in stability. In contrast, the other figure is caught mid-fall, his legs lifted into the air as his body twists, straining against gravity and the force of his rival’s grip. The juxtaposition of these two stances creates a dynamic interplay of balance and imbalance, control and vulnerability.
The twisting forms of the wrestlers draw the eye around the sculpture, encouraging viewers to circle the piece and see the struggle from every angle. From one side, the crouched figure seems dominant; from another, the falling figure appears poised to counter. This shifting perception mirrors the nature of combat itself, fluid, unpredictable, and ever-changing.
The bronze resin surface enhances the physicality of the piece. Its dark tone highlights the anatomical detail while also grounding the drama in weight and permanence. At once classical in subject and contemporary in material, Wrestlers embodies both timeless human conflict and modern sculptural presence.
