Totem Head III by Patricia Volk, Stoneware, Unique, 80cm high, 50cm wide, 40cm deep
Totem Head III is a bold and expressive figurative sculpture by acclaimed artist Patricia Volk. Hand-built in stoneware and finished with richly coloured surface treatments, the work presents a stylised portrait bust that fuses abstraction with emotional resonance.
Volk’s signature use of simplified forms and vivid colour invites viewers to engage with the sculpture on both a visual and psychological level. The contours are deliberately exaggerated, and the features stylised, suggesting not a literal likeness but an interpretation, a totemic presence evoking identity, memory, and inner life.
The painted surface adds an additional layer of complexity, as colour becomes an integral part of the sculptural language. This piece reflects Volk’s interest in the relationship between shape, space, and human expression, blurring the line between classical portraiture and contemporary art.
Standing 80cm tall, Totem Head III has a strong sculptural presence, suitable for both interior and exterior settings. As a unique, hand-crafted artwork, it captures the energy and individuality of the artist’s vision, bold, contemplative, and unmistakably original.
