Swing to the Music by Tinei Mashaya, Springstone, Unique, 270cm high by 65cm wide by 65cm deep, Dancing, Dance, Abstract, Body, Couple, Figurative sculpture
This piece by Tinei Mashaya is a striking figurative sculpture carved from springstone. It captures the energy, intimacy, and rhythm of dance. Standing 270 cm high by 65 cm wide by 65 cm deep, this unique work commands attention. Its scale invites viewers to move around it and experience the composition from multiple angles. Consequently, the sculpture emphasizes both physicality and grace.
The piece depicts two abstracted figures embracing as they dance. Their hands meet in a delicate clasp. Meanwhile, two hands point downward and the other two reach upward. This gesture creates balance and movement. Together, the intertwined bodies suggest unity and shared energy. Mashaya emphasizes gesture over literal anatomy. As a result, the sculpture communicates emotion and rhythm through form alone.
Carved from springstone, the surface shows subtle texture and natural variation. Light shifts across the forms, enhancing the sense of motion. Smooth planes contrast with sharper angles, reinforcing tension and flow. At the same time, the vertical composition draws the eye upward, giving the impression of lift and vitality.
Swing to the Music explores partnership, harmony, and expressive movement. Therefore, it appeals to collectors of African art, contemporary figurative sculpture, and large-scale stone works. Whether displayed in a gallery or as a centrepiece, it combines strong presence with poetic abstraction. Ultimately, this unique sculpture captures the joy, rhythm, and energy of shared movement in enduring stone.
