This piece by Simon Chidharara is a unique Shona serpentine stone sculpture that captures the bond between parent and child, the piece presents a larger owl standing protectively behind a smaller one. Their forms are carved in profile, yet both turn their heads outward to engage directly with the viewer.

The larger owl leans gently over the smaller bird, its posture suggesting guidance and watchfulness. Chidharara leaves parts of the stone uncarved, especially on the wing and head, grounding the sculpture in its natural material. Two pointed feathers crown the larger owl, a detail that adds presence and character. The smaller owl, carved with fewer details, still holds a clear identity. Its rounded form and tilted head bring a sense of curiosity, contrasting with the composure of the adult.

The smooth, polished surfaces stand out against the untouched stone, creating balance between refinement and rawness. This interplay gives the work depth and texture, while also emphasizing the duality of nature and nurture.

Delivery & Installation

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
