Dancing in the Wind by Tinei Mashaya, Springstone, Unique, 115cm high by 40cm wide by 35cm deep, Body, Figurative, Male, Men, People, sculpture
This piece by Tinei Mashaya is a joyful Shona Springstone sculpture alive with movement. It shows an abstract man dancing freely, his body caught in a swirl of motion. His arms stretch high behind his back, giving the figure a sweeping curve that feels full of energy and life.
The man’s face has a white beard that stands out sharply against the darker stone. This small detail hints at age and wisdom. Yet, despite the beard, the pose is youthful and spirited. The figure leans back as if to catch the wind, his chest lifted and head held high. He seems to dance without worry, lost in his own world.
Mashaya balances polished smooth areas with rougher textures. These contrasts make the sculpture feel alive under the light. Shadows play on its curves, adding depth from every angle. The long sweeping lines invite the viewer to move around the piece. Each side shows new shapes, like a dance frozen in stone but always changing.
This sculpture is a reminder to stay light-hearted, no matter your age. It celebrates freedom and the simple joy of movement. In Dancing in the Wind, Mashaya captures a spirit that bends but never breaks, forever dancing, forever free.
