Come Dine with Tree, Bronze, Unique, 185cm high by 325cm wide by 325cm deep, Body, Figurative, People sculpture
Come Dine with Tree is a unique bronze sculpture, 185 cm high and 325 cm wide and deep. The work combines figurative and abstract elements to depict five human forms gathered around a circular table.
Each figure feels incomplete. Parts of their bodies are missing, either the back half or the front, so their forms resemble shells or moulds instead of solid beings. This absence adds a haunting quality, as though the figures are traces of presence rather than complete people. Despite their fragmentation, they all lean into the act of dining.
Some stand upright, holding their space with dignity. Others bend and press against the table, their gestures creating variety and rhythm within the circle. The table itself anchors the group, acting as both the literal and symbolic center of the piece. The arrangement suggests shared ritual, yet the missing parts highlight fragility and impermanence.
The sculpture is designed to be shown with a tree planted in the middle of the table. The living tree rises through the bronze circle, contrasting natural growth with sculpted absence. This interplay deepens the meaning: nature completes what is missing, or perhaps overshadows human incompleteness.
Viewed together, the fragmented figures, the circular table, and the living tree transform the work into a meditation on community, absence, and renewal. It balances solemnity with quiet beauty, offering a space where viewers can reflect on the bond between humanity and nature.
