Bird With Open Wings by Hattakitkosol Somchai, 35cm high, 60cm wide, 55cm deep, Bronze, Wood, Edition 5 of 100, Crane, Gold

A bronze sculpture of a golden bird with a long neck, leaning down with its wings open.

Bird With Open Wings by Hattakitkosol Somchai is a captivating bronze sculpture that immediately draws the viewer’s attention through its graceful form and dynamic sense of movement. Standing 35 centimeters high, stretching 60 centimeters wide, and extending 55 centimeters deep, the piece occupies space with both elegance and intention. Somchai created this artwork as part of an edition of 100, yet each casting feels uniquely expressive due to the intricate surface textures and the warm, golden finish that highlights the sculpture’s refined details.

At the centre of the composition, a long-necked crane bends gently forward, as if pausing in a moment of quiet observation. Rather than sitting still, the bird appears poised between motion and stillness. Its wings open outward in a broad, sweeping arc, suggesting a transition, perhaps from rest to flight. This open-winged stance adds a sense of vitality, allowing the viewer to imagine the air moving around the sculpture or the soft rustling of feathers.

Somchai’s choice of bronze and wood enhances the sculpture’s natural beauty. The gold-tinted bronze reflects light in warm, shifting tones, while the wooden base introduces an earthy grounding element. Together, these materials create a balanced interplay between strength and delicacy. Furthermore, the sculpture’s proportions and posture guide the eye from the bird’s curved neck down through its extended wings, encouraging a slow, appreciative viewing.

Overall, Bird With Open Wings celebrates grace, movement, and the quiet power of a single captured moment, inviting viewers to linger and reflect on the elegance of the natural world.
