Twister Fountain by Gary Hodgkinson, Yorkshire Stone, 180cm high (42cm high square base), water feature
This piece by Gary Hodgkinson is a striking carved sculpture in Yorkshire stone, standing 180 cm tall with a 42 cm square base. This elegant, spiralling form serves as both a decorative sculpture and a functional water feature, an inspired fusion of natural beauty and refined craftsmanship.
Carved with precision, the stone twists upward in a graceful helix, drawing the viewer’s eye along its rising contours. The form suggests movement and flow, even before the water begins to run. When in operation, a gentle stream of water emerges from the top, cascading downward in subtle rivulets that trace the curves of the sculpture. This creates a continuous, soothing rhythm of sound and motion, calming to the senses and visually captivating.
The natural texture and coloration of the Yorkshire stone lend the piece an earthy warmth and timeless quality. Its weathered surface softens the spiral’s bold geometry, creating a harmonious contrast between natural material and sculptural form. Over time, the stone will continue to evolve, developing a patina that enhances its organic character and strengthens its connection to the landscape.
Whether placed in a formal garden, modern courtyard, or rustic outdoor setting, Twister Fountain becomes an immediate focal point. It invites quiet contemplation, offers a soothing auditory backdrop, and encourages interaction between viewer, sculpture, and environment.
