Time is a pop-art inspired glass sculpture that turns emotion into a striking visual metaphor. Made from silk-screen printed laminated glass, 18mm thick, and measuring 110cm high, 60cm wide, and 12cm deep, the piece stands like a window into feeling and memory. Esbe arranges facial features to form a symbolic hourglass. A clear, blue stream of tears flows downward. The tears fall from a single eye at the top, glide over parted lips, and then reach another inverted eye beneath, emphasizing both repetition and inevitability.
Esbe uses graphic simplicity to heighten impact. The hourglass shape feels familiar, yet the re-arranged facial elements make the viewer stop and decode the image. Because the tears replace sand, time becomes emotional rather than mechanical. Each drop suggests the weight of lived experience. The flowing blue lines soften the glass’s sharp edges, turning a rigid material into a sense of movement and fluidity.
The sculpture works as both artwork and outdoor feature. Sunlight passes through the blue imagery, projecting reflections that shift throughout the day. As a result, the piece changes continuously, echoing how time never stands still. The colours brighten in daylight, but at dusk the tears deepen into darker tones, almost like night settling over the image.
Time speaks to sadness, yet it also brings renewal. Tears wash downward, suggesting loss, but they also recall fountains and flowing water in a garden. Esbe transforms emotion into landscape, offering reflection, beauty, and a reminder that every second leaves a trace, just as water leaves ripples behind.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
