Incomparable Beauty is a unique, hand-carved abstract Shona sculpture by Zimbabwean artist Tawanda Makore, created from richly coloured Cobalt Stone.
Standing 68cm high, the sculpture has an elegant, flowing silhouette that makes it particularly suited to display on a table, pedestal or other raised surface. Its elongated form sweeps through a graceful curve, resembling an abstract S-shape or perhaps the crest and movement of a wave. The interpretation is deliberately open, allowing the form to suggest different things depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
Makore’s carving emphasises movement, balance and rhythm. Smooth, sweeping contours lead the eye around the sculpture. The natural character and variations within the Cobalt Stone become an integral part of the finished work. The solidity of the stone contrasts beautifully with the sense of fluidity created by the artist’s carving.
Viewed from different perspectives, Incomparable Beauty continually changes: curves become more pronounced, negative spaces shift and the relationship between mass and movement takes on a different character. This gives the sculpture a strong presence despite its relatively compact, table-top scale.
Entirely hand carved and one of a kind, Incomparable Beauty is an expressive example of contemporary Shona stone sculpture. The piece combines the permanence and weight of natural stone with an unexpectedly graceful, almost organic sense of movement.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
