“Melody” is a captivating abstract Shona sculpture by renowned Zimbabwean sculptor Stewart Chapenga, celebrated for his ability to translate emotion and movement into stone. Hand-carved from Springstone, a dense and exceptionally hard variety of serpentine found in Zimbabwe, this work radiates both power and harmony.
The sculpture’s flowing, rhythmic curves embody the essence of music, the interplay between sound and silence, energy and stillness. Chapenga’s precise craftsmanship allows the dark, polished surface of the Springstone. It comes alive with subtle reflections, enhancing the sense of motion and fluidity.
In “Melody,” the artist explores the connection between human creativity and the natural world, a recurring theme in Shona art. The balanced composition and organic form invite the viewer to contemplate the invisible yet universal language of music.
This piece is entirely hand-sculpted, making it a unique original – no replicas or moulds are ever used in Chapenga’s process. Its tactile surface and dynamic structure make it an ideal centrepiece for a private collection, gallery space, or contemporary interior.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
