Sailing Turbine by Jonathan Clarke is a unique abstract sculpture, meticulously crafted from sand-cast aluminium. Standing 135cm high, 63cm wide, and 37cm deep, this work merges industrial design with organic form, creating a visual rhythm that suggests both movement and balance.
At its base, a low six-legged table supports the composition, grounding the sculpture while adding a sense of engineered purpose. Resting atop are two large paddle-like forms and a central propeller shape, each sculpted with clean, bold lines and smooth, matte surfaces. These elements interact as if poised for motion, reminiscent of nautical machinery or early aviation prototypes.
The juxtaposition of the paddles and propeller suggests kinetic energy held in suspension. As the eye moves between them, the composition evokes the idea of propulsion, wind, water, or mechanical force, all converging in a unified structure. The deliberate arrangement speaks to themes of innovation, travel, and transformation.
Despite its mechanical references, Sailing Turbine retains a sculptural elegance. Clarke’s use of sand-cast aluminium brings a raw yet refined texture, offering depth and subtle reflections. Overall, the piece balances function and abstraction, capturing the essence of motion while remaining firmly still, like a turbine ready to sail into imagination.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
We can provide a suitable sculpture plinth for an extra charge, please enquire for details. Experienced professionals handle all our sculptures, ensuring safe delivery and proper installation.
