Protecting the Egg by Lucknosa is a unique Shona stone sculpture measuring 84 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. The piece depicts two birds standing together, united in guarding their egg, capturing both care and quiet strength.
The birds face opposite directions, their necks curving gracefully so their beaks rest near their bodies. Their forms overlap slightly, creating a sense of connection and symmetry. Between them, a carved-out space holds the egg securely at the base, emphasizing its importance and the protective gesture of the birds.
The sculpture is somewhat flat, making it best viewed from head-on. A small, wide base supports the composition, anchoring the birds while elevating them visually. The polished surface enhances the natural beauty of the stone, revealing grey tones flecked with green and yellow that give depth and character to the piece.
Protecting the Egg balances simplicity and expression. The curved lines of the birds’ necks and bodies convey harmony and unity, while the carved egg draws focus to the central theme of care and protection. The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
