Pebble Squared (small) by Richard Cresswell, Metal, Edition, 48cm high by 42cm wide by 10cm deep, Nature sculpture
Pebble Squared (Small) by Richard Cresswell is an abstract metal sculpture standing 48 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. This editioned piece explores colour, movement, and perception through a simple circular form built from interwoven metal strips.
The sculpture’s circular frame is composed of diagonal bands that crisscross each other, creating a layered grid of light and space. One direction of the strips glows a vivid red, while the other shimmers blue. As viewers move around the piece, the colour shifts dramatically. From one side, the circle appears entirely red; from the opposite, it transforms into blue. Viewed head-on, both hues blend through the open structure, allowing light to pass freely and revealing the complexity of the design.
Mounted on a sleek black stand, the sculpture stands upright with precision and balance. The open construction lets the surrounding environment interact with the piece, making it change continuously with angle, distance, and light. Each shift in perspective reveals a new relationship between structure, colour, and shadow.
Pebble Squared (Small) combines engineering precision with visual playfulness. Cresswell turns industrial material into a study of perception and transformation. The interplay between red and blue, solid and open, static and shifting, invites viewers to engage actively. The sculpture feels alive, constantly changing, never fixed, celebrating the dynamic relationship between viewer, light, and form.
