Passiflora by Ruth Moilliet, Stainless Steel, 150cm high by 150cm wide, wall mounted, Silver, Purple
This piece by Ruth Moilliet commands attention as a bold, wall-mounted sculpture forged in stainless steel, with a diameter of 150 cm. Drawing from the exotic complexity of the passion flower, Moilliet reimagines its botanical structure in gleaming metal, transforming a delicate bloom into a dynamic, contemporary artwork.
Stainless steel reinforces the sculpture’s dual nature , robust yet refined. Moilliet sculpts the flower’s intricate forms through precision laser-cutting and hand-forming, crafting polished surfaces that catch and scatter light. These reflective elements echo the passion flower’s radial symmetry and layered anatomy, while also animating the piece as lighting conditions shift throughout the day. The result is a living interplay of light, shadow, and movement.
Known for blurring the lines between nature and industry, Moilliet transforms the ephemeral into the eternal. In Passiflora, she captures the passion flower’s fleeting beauty and magnifies it into a lasting, almost celestial presence. The sculpture doesn’t just depict a flower, it honors its complexity, symbolism, and quiet power. Themes of devotion, metamorphosis, and natural order pulse through the metal form.
Moilliet’s work fuses scientific accuracy with artistic vision. Passiflora invites viewers to engage with the delicate balance between human creation and the natural world. At once floral and futuristic, decorative and conceptual, the piece exemplifies the artist’s skill in distilling nature’s ephemeral essence into a bold, enduring form.
