United Family by William Wilberforce Chewa is a monumental Shona Opal stone sculpture that celebrates family, unity and the strength found in togetherness. Standing an impressive 205 cm high, 92 cm wide and 71 cm deep, this unique sculpture depicts a family of five abstract figures gathered closely together and connected as one harmonious form.
Chewa simplifies each figure with a distinctive sculptural language. Rounded, circular heads contrast with long, rectangular bodies, which gradually taper towards a shared point at the base. Consequently, the composition creates a strong vertical rhythm while maintaining an intimate sense of closeness. Moreover, the tightly huddled arrangement reinforces the sculpture’s central theme: five individuals united through a common bond.
Although monumental in scale, United Family retains warmth and emotional sensitivity. The abstract figures lean into one another, suggesting protection, belonging and mutual support. The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
