Modest by Nele Serpieters is a bronze sculpture from an edition of 49, measuring 145 cm high by 35 cm wide by 65 cm deep. The work presents an abstracted human figure standing upright while looking down toward the ground. The posture is inward and contained. The figure appears paused, caught in a moment of quiet stillness.
The body leans forward, with the head angled sharply downward. The form droops under its own weight. Heavy bronze masses pull at the figure, stretching and softening the anatomy. These weighted areas blur clear bodily outlines and shift the figure toward abstraction without losing its human presence.
Blobs of bronze gather and descend along the torso and limbs. They create ripples, folds, and compressed surfaces across the body. These variations give the sculpture a strong sense of gravity and pressure. The surface remains largely smoothed, yet areas of texture break through, especially where the form thickens or bends. This contrast adds depth and visual movement.
The bronze carries a dark blue-grey coloration that sits evenly across the surface. Subtle tonal changes appear as light moves across the folds and textures. The finish enhances the sense of density while maintaining a quiet restraint. The sculpture feels solid, grounded, and physically present.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
