Lulu by Raffaella Benetti, Bronze and finished with a copper patina, 59 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 24 cm deep
Raffaella Benetti’s Lulu celebrates the playful elegance of marine life through abstraction and refined form. Cast in bronze and finished with a copper patina, the sculpture measures 59 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 24 cm deep, striking a balance between sculptural weight and visual lightness.
Benetti depicts a seal perched at the crest of a hoop, its body stylized into smooth, simplified lines that suggest both strength and buoyancy. The circular hoop provides a rhythmic counterbalance, framing the seal while also echoing the curves of its body. This interplay of form invites the viewer to read the work not only as a representation of an animal, but also as a study in geometry and movement.
The copper patina enriches the surface with a subtle warmth, softening the solidity of the bronze and adding tonal depth that shifts with changing light. Benetti uses the material’s natural qualities to emphasize texture and volume, while her abstraction strips away unnecessary detail, focusing the viewer’s attention on balance, proportion, and gesture.
Lulu embodies both whimsy and elegance. It recalls the playful agility of seals, yet its composition elevates the subject into a timeless sculptural statement. Benetti transforms a simple marine motif into a symbol of grace, harmony, and artistic discipline.
