Steven Hunton’s Heads is a striking example of his playful yet perceptive approach to sculpture. Composed entirely of salvaged copper elements, the piece stands as a charismatic totem of eccentric expression. At 70 centimetres high, the head looms with comic vitality , its exaggerated features inviting both laughter and curiosity. Wonky, asymmetrical eyes peer out with a lopsided stare, a gaping, wide mouth stretches into a grin that’s both grotesque and gleeful, and a protruding tongue seals the sculpture’s irreverent charm.
The work reflects Hunton’s fascination with character, identity, and the absurd. By using found materials, especially copper with its warm sheen and patinated textures, he imbues the sculpture with a sense of history and re-use, transforming the discarded into the delightful. The assemblage method lends the piece a sense of spontaneity, as if the personality of the head emerged organically from the materials themselves.
At once humorous and oddly empathetic, Heads balances comic exaggeration with a raw emotional undertone. It speaks to the humanity found in imperfection, and the joy of seeing ourselves, tongue out, eyes askew, reflected in art that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Delivery & Installation
The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
