European School is an abstract aluminium sculpture, inscribed STCS-1 5-90, and standing 82 cm high. The piece rests on a wooden base, which grounds the shimmering form above.
The sculpture takes the shape of a mirrored shard, rising sharply with angled planes and uneven edges. While the form is sleek and minimal, a few small protrusions jut out from the sides, breaking the clean lines and adding tension to the structure. These details disrupt the smooth geometry, giving the shard an unpredictable and dynamic energy.
The aluminium surface is polished to a high sheen, creating distorted reflections that shift as the viewer moves. Rather than presenting a clear mirror, the surface bends and twists surrounding imagery, turning the reflection itself into part of the artwork. This distortion enhances the shard’s abstract quality, making it feel both present and elusive at once.
The contrast between the polished metal and the natural wooden base strengthens the work’s presence. The warmth of the wood balances the cool, industrial sharpness of the aluminium, offering a dialogue between organic and manufactured materials.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 1 person, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
