Elation by John Robinson, Bronze, Edition 2 of 9, Stamped JR ’85, 2/9 and with the foundry stamp ‘Moriani Pietrosante, Italy’, 201cm high by 65cm wide by 65cm deep, All sculpture, Contemporary sculpture, Abstract Sculpture.
Elation by John Robinson is a striking bronze sculpture, edition 2 of 9, created in 1985 and cast at the Moriani Pietrosante foundry in Italy. The work stands 201 cm tall and carries Robinson’s stamp along with the foundry mark. This mark affirming its place within his celebrated body of geometric abstraction.
The sculpture consists of two bold triangular forms. At the base, a grounded pyramid provides weight and stability. From its sharp tip rises the second form, a tall, elongated triangle that projects outward, appearing to defy gravity. The composition creates a powerful tension between the earthbound solidity of the pyramid and the soaring reach of the triangle above it.
Bronze, with its polished planes and shifting reflections, enhances this dynamic. Light catches on the edges and surfaces, creating a play of brightness and shadow that amplifies the sense of movement. The eye is drawn upward, following the triangular thrust into open space.
The title Elation captures the work’s essence. Robinson transforms simple geometry into a symbol of release and uplift. The lower form anchors the sculpture, while the upper form stretches into the air, embodying aspiration and freedom.
Bold, minimal, and monumental, Elation distils complex emotion into pure structure. Robinson reduces form to its essentials yet imbues it with energy, balance, and a profound sense of joy.
