Caring for the Young by Peter Chidzonga is a Shona springstone sculpture measuring 157 cm high, 42 cm wide, and 30 cm deep. Immediately, the eye is drawn to the tall bird, rising gracefully with a long, flowing body. Its wings extend slightly, and the tail sweeps behind, giving the figure stability and elegance. The neck bends gently to the right, while the head leans back, conveying alertness and care.
Next, attention shifts to the smaller bird resting beside it. The compact figure nestles against the larger bird, its gaze lifted upward in trust. This contrast in size emphasizes protection and a strong bond. The two birds’ placement and posture create a dialogue, guiding the viewer’s eye across the sculpture and highlighting the relationship between parent and offspring.

The Sculpture Park will be in contact after purchase to arrange a delivery date. Delivery will require at least 2 people, which will be provided by The Sculpture Park wherever possible. We can provide an installation service upon request, email Sian at sian@thesculpturepark.com to discuss details. Delivery and installation will be provided by The Sculpture Park for mainland Great Britain, excluding the Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands and Republic of Ireland. A mainland courier company will handle any onward shipping.
