Bruno by Mislav Katalinic, Metal, Unique, 81cm high by 160cm wide by 62cm deep, Abstract, Animals and Birds, Figurative sculpture
Bruno by Mislav Katalinić is a unique figurative metal sculpture, measuring 81 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 62 cm deep. Crafted from metal, the piece portrays a stylised dog in mid-walk, its head lowered in a calm, almost contemplative gesture.
The figure is intentionally lean, with an elongated body and minimal detailing. Parts of the dog are deliberately left incomplete, revealing open white spaces. These negative spaces give the sculpture a sense of weightlessness and vulnerability, while also drawing attention to the skeletal elegance of the form. Despite its fragmentation, the dog’s posture and movement remain clearly readable.
Katalinić’s use of metal adds to the sculpture’s expressive tension. The raw, industrial material contrasts with the subject’s quiet, almost melancholic stance. Light filters through the cut-out sections, shifting the visual weight and casting broken shadows that echo the sculpture’s fragmented design.
Bruno evokes a quiet narrative, one of resilience, presence, and motion through absence. The missing elements speak as loudly as the solid ones, inviting reflection on identity and imperfection.
Overall, the sculpture balances strength and fragility. Through its simplified form and thoughtful gaps, Bruno transforms a familiar figure into a poetic symbol of endurance and quiet grace.
