Victor Halvani
BORN:
Born in Egypt 1930 to Bella and Yitzchak, a traditional Jewish family
PARENTS:
His father was a judge and his mother, descendent from a rabbinic family, was a great storyteller who transformed the heroes of the Bible into her child’s best friends.
EARLY LIFE:
His works reflect his childhood interest and passion for ancient Egyptian art, and the beauty and spirituality inspired by Biblical stories.
EDUCATION:
His inspiration filled drawings caught the eye of his teachers and with their encouragement he entered a national competition in which he won first place. This lead to him winning a full scholarship at the art faculty in Zamalek and at the Cairo University. He studied at the Zamalek Academy of Art, Cairo, and won scholarships to further study at the Bezalel Academy of Art, Israel, and Hammersmith College of Art, London. (MA, Sculpture).
CAREER:
He has taught and lectured on Sculpture at Tel Aviv and Haifa Universities, and was instrumental in the founding of Art Learning Programs and Art Workshops in Israel. He has also developed a self-titled sculpture park, artist’s colony and foundation in Safed, Israel
Halvani was elected to represent Israel at the International Exposition of Sculpture in Paris, and participated in the 2nd Biennial of Sculpture in Israel at the Museum of Modern Art, Haifa.
