Sue Jones

Born
Sue Jones was born in 1964 in Shropshire, United Kingdom.

Early Life
She grew up in Shropshire and moved to Oxfordshire at the age of 16 to work with horses. It was there that she developed a strong connection to the area, which she considers her spiritual home.

Career
Jones began sculpting in 2009 after joining the Bicester Sculpture Group. She continues to work both from her home and within a shared studio environment, which she finds stimulating and creatively rewarding. She is also a member of the Oxford Sculptors Group.

Materials
She works across a variety of materials, producing both unique sculptures and limited editions in cold cast bronze and bronze. More recently, she has explored stainless steel and slate, often incorporating bases such as green oak and Portland stone.

Style & Subject
Her work is deeply inspired by natural forms and textures observed in the environment. Elements such as patterns left by the sea, seed heads, rippling water, tree bark, and leaf shapes inform her sculptural language. Jones creates tactile pieces intended to be handled, encouraging viewers to engage physically with the textures and forms. Each sculpture is conceived as a personal and expressive interpretation of the natural world.
