Nick Horrigan

Nick Horrigan is a UK born artist, currently based in Nottingham.

Education
He studied Fine and Studio Arts at the University of Northampton, graduating in 2004.

Materials
Horrigan works predominantly with wood, occasionally incorporating steel, metal fixings, acrylic, plastics, resins, and concrete into his sculptures and installations. He frequently uses timber that has been mechanically split into planks or beams before assembling them into constructed sculptural forms.

Wood remains central to his practice, particularly its grain, movement, and natural tendency to warp over time. He is also interested in the visual and structural relationships that emerge when wood is combined with industrial and manufactured materials.

Style & Subject
Over the past two decades, Horrigan has developed a body of sculptural and installation work centred on the relationship between natural and manufactured environments. His practice explores both the physical and metaphorical tensions created through the combination of organic and industrial materials.

Horrigan’s work investigates the intersections between the mechanical and the natural world, using sculpture as a way to open dialogue about humanity’s place within nature. Through carefully constructed forms, he balances engineered structures with the shifting, organic qualities of timber, allowing material behaviour itself to become an active component of the work.
