Michael Ayrton
BORN:
Ayrton was born Michael Ayrton Gould. He was born on 20th February 1921 and passed away 16 November 1975,
PARENTS:
His father Gerald Gould was a writer and his mother was the Labour politician Barbara Ayrton. His grandmother was the electrical engineer and inventor Hertha Marks.
EARLY LIFE:
He wrote many works associated with Myths including Minotaur and Daedalus the legendary maze builder and inventor. He was the author of many non-fictions on fine art. He was an English artist with many different talents including, being a writer, a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, a critic, broadcaster and novelist.
EDUCATION:
Ayrton studied art at Heatherley School of Fine Art and St John’s Wood Art School, then in Paris under Eugène Berman
AWARDS:
In 1977 Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery organised an exhibition of Ayrtons work which then went on tour.
SUBJECTS OF WORK:
Ayrton had an obsession with flight, myths, Mirrors and mazes.
EXHIBITIONS:
His work is exhibited in Tate Gallery London, National Portrait Gallery London, Museum of Modern Art New York and Fry Ary Gallery in Essex.
