Lata Upadhyaya developed her artistic foundations in India, where she completed a Master’s degree in Fine Art. Her early work was shaped by her cultural background and academic training, forming the basis for her later exploration of identity and migration.

LIVES:
She migrated to the United Kingdom in the late 1990s and is now based in South Essex, where she continues to live and work.

CAREER:
After relocating to the UK, Upadhyaya furthered her education by completing an additional Master’s degree in Fine Art. Her work has since been exhibited internationally and is held in both private and public collections. Alongside her personal practice, she is an active advocate for building and supporting artistic communities in South Essex. She works from her studio at Acme in Purfleet, located within the Royal Opera House Production Workshop.

STYLE AND SUBJECTS:
Her artwork reflects her personal journey of migration, exploring themes of identity, displacement, and belonging. Through her practice, she conveys emotional and cultural narratives rooted in her lived experience.
